A historical book jointly compiled by historical societies of Alaxia and the New Continent, comprehensive in content and meticulous in analysis. The standard edition is in the Common Tongue, though those who wish to read it in Elvish can also do so.
This is the "塞勒涅之春" chapter of the Selene volume, a subject on which historians from both countries have expended considerable effort.
Chapter 1 Prelude
If we speak fairly, the 墨卢瓦家族 has produced countless geniuses. We need not specifically name any of them — anyone with even a passing interest in art or history would know their names by heart.
Perhaps due to the inherent flaws of all hereditary systems, the descendants of those once talented ancestors degenerated into pleasure-seeking drunkards and lechers.
In 3124, after the ascension of Ashidaka de Meruwa, all of this was tragically pushed to its extreme. Ashidaka I seemed to have no interest whatsoever in magical research or the management of state affairs; if he had leisure time, he preferred to go hunting, or to savor delicacies from various nations, and his extravagant lifestyle caused him to become extremely obese.
The ugly are always more sensitive about their image, and the old ministers of the former dynasty are always subjecting him to annoying interference. Ashitaka is not stupid—on the contrary, he possesses the uniquely cruel cunning of a fat man, and he is secretly scheming a coup.
After an ordinary session of state affairs ended, a madman suddenly burst into the parliament hall, his face shrouded in cloth, screaming as he unleashed 塔拉戈纳之烬—a devastating fire spell that incinerated numerous legislators. In his frenzy, he turned the flames upon himself and burned to ash. This catastrophic disaster would later come to be known as "花月政变".
Ashitaka I happened to not be present that day.
How could a madman slip through such tight security? How could he walk right into the parliament in broad daylight without a care? And why did he burn himself alive?
The answer is obvious—it was nothing more than a carefully orchestrated conspiracy by Ashidaka I. He used it to eliminate his numerous opponents, and on this pretext executed the former High Sheriff, replacing him with his own confidant—Piron Yugen.
We need not dwell on Ashidaka's conduct after seizing power. Ashidaka has an odd habit—he is always eager to give nicknames to his subordinates, such as "活垃圾"[Living Trash] Pirun Yugen and "智囊"[Brain] Meigaomei Serafet. Regardless, he relies on these cronies to keep Selene running—a strained operation at best.
When force is applied to an object, the greater the force exerted, the greater the reactive force—this is a natural law. It has been proven that this law applies equally to the societies of intelligent beings. After the Flower Moon Coup, Selene was seething with undercurrents. Those who had studied the politics of Xinzhou or Alesia and believed in republicanism spontaneously formed their own organization—the House of Republicans—whose leader was Professor Drefort Erdo of Ofuna University.
